This series of photographic prints was captured over several years on a short stretch of the NSW south coast. Years before the commencement of this project Jess traveled in a very small airplane photographing aerial images over the desert country of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara lands.
She was struck by the incredible similarity in visuals between this perspective and the dot paintings of the traditional owners of the land. Over the years this inspiration and connection to the Australian landscape has been a thought process that both Martin and Jess have returned to in their personal photography work.
Exploring the beautiful rock platforms, proportional uncertainty asserts itself. Are we looking from high in the sky at mountains, valleys and trees or at the smallest of pebbles in an ocean rockpool. In the images we have always tried to incorporate something, as a visual clue, that clarifies the closeness of the imagery while still leaving the impression of a birds eye perspective.
